On a warm summer afternoon, Lena and Henry were playing on the beach while Pepi, their colorful and chatty parrot, flew above their heads. They were collecting shells and competing to see who could find the most unusual treasure when Henry suddenly stopped.
“Look! Something is drifting in the water!” – he pointed into the distance.

A solitary ship was tossing on the waves. Its masts stood bare against the sky, and there was no sign of life aboard.
“It’s been there for days,” said Lena, shading her eyes as she gazed at the strange sight.
“I think it’s a pirate ship!” Henry exclaimed, and his imagination instantly filled with gold coins and treasure chests.
“Pirates! Ship!” squawked Pepi, as if understanding what they were talking about.

The siblings exchanged a look. “Let’s get a closer look!” Henry suggested.
They brought out the old rowboat that had been resting in their father’s shed and carefully set it in the water.

As they got closer, the name of the ship became visible: Dark Gull.

Lena and Henry approached the side of the drifting ship with their rowboat. From the deck, a few ropes hung over the water, which they could easily reach. Henry grabbed one and skillfully pulled himself up. “Come on, Lena, it feels stable!” he called back.

Lena followed, and soon they were both standing on the deck. The Dark Gull was larger than it had seemed from a distance, and although the storm had clearly battered it, it still stood firm.

“This ship must have been through a lot,” Lena said as she looked around. The masts stood bare against the sky, and the deck was eerily silent.

“But where is the crew?” Henry asked.

“Maybe we’ll find something inside,” Lena said, pointing to an intricately carved door. “This must be the captain’s cabin!”

Henry slowly opened the door, and it creaked softly. Inside the cabin, they found a massive table with yellowed papers and a leather-bound book on top. A tattered pirate flag hung on the wall.

“This really is a pirate ship!” Henry said excitedly. Meanwhile, Lena picked up the book and carefully opened it.

“It’s a ship’s log,” she said as she began flipping through the pages. The lines were meticulously written, all the way to the final entry. Henry leaned over, and they read it together:

“The storm is stronger than anything we’ve ever seen. The ship holds, though it has been battered heavily by the fury of the weather. According to the map, we’re close to the treasure island. The crew is ready to abandon the ship and swim to shore if the storm forces us.”

“That’s why they left the ship!” Lena said. “Because of the storm!”

“And because of the treasure!” Henry added, as he picked up a map lying on the table.

The yellowed map showed an island with a small X marking the treasure’s location. Henry traced the route with his finger.
“This is the island—we have to go there too!” he said excitedly.

“Wait!” Lena interrupted. “With this ship? Do we even know how to sail it?”

“We have to try!” Henry replied determinedly.

Lena nodded, and they both set to work preparing the ship for the journey. Little did they know that the treasure island held not only wealth but also dangers and mysteries waiting to be uncovered.

Lena and Henry excitedly prepared to set off. Henry stepped to the helm, while Lena hoisted the pirate flag to the mast. The flag fluttered proudly in the wind, and the Dark Gull came alive once more.

“Let’s head for the island!” Henry shouted.

The ship glided surprisingly smoothly across the waves. Not long after, Lena exclaimed, “There it is! That must be the island!” Henry tightened his grip on the wheel and steered the ship toward the rocky shoreline. “Keep the map ready,” he said. “We’ll be docking soon.”

The island was quiet, but the silence was more unsettling than peaceful. Dense forest bordered the shore, its canopy barely letting the setting sun’s light through. As Lena and Henry stepped onto the sandy beach, Pepi began squawking, “Pirates! Pirates!”

“Quiet, Pepi!” Henry whispered. “They might still be here!”

Lena studied the map and pointed to a clearing deep in the forest. “The X is marked here. That’s where we need to go.”

Henry nodded, and they cautiously set off down the dark forest paths.

As they approached the clearing, they spotted a faint light among the trees. Lena motioned to Henry to stop. The two siblings cautiously crept closer and saw a group of men gathered around a campfire.

“That’s Captain Zeno and his crew!” Lena whispered.

The pirates sat around the fire, talking about where they would start digging the next day.

“Tomorrow morning, we’ll try again,” Captain Zeno said. “The treasure is here somewhere, and we won’t give up until we find it!”

“That means they’re digging in the wrong spot,” Henry whispered. “But we still have to act quickly!”

Lena nodded. “Let’s find the right spot before they notice us.”

Following the map, Lena and Henry moved through the forest until they reached an unusual clearing. In the center stood an old, moss-covered rock, matching the mark on the map perfectly.

“This is it,” Henry whispered and pulled out the shovel. He began digging quickly, while Lena kept watch.

“I found something!” Henry said softly, his shovel striking a solid object. Within minutes, they uncovered an old, sturdy chest buried in the ground.

“This must be the treasure!” Lena whispered excitedly.

Henry was just trying to lift the chest when shouts suddenly echoed through the forest.

“There they are! Get them!” Captain Zeno bellowed as the pirates burst out from the trees.

The siblings had no chance to escape. The pirates grabbed them and dragged them back to their camp.

The pirates quickly cobbled together a wooden cage. They tied Lena and Henry’s hands and locked them inside the cage. The treasure chest was carefully placed next to the fire.

“At dawn, we leave the island,” Captain Zeno told his crew.
“We’ll take the gold back to the ship, and as for these kids, we’ll sell them at the market. We’ll get a good price for them!” At this, the pirates erupted in loud laughter.

The siblings listened to his words in terror as the pirates returned to their drinking by the campfire, gradually falling asleep. Although they had posted a guard, he too dozed off after drinking too much.

Suddenly, the silence was broken by a faint rustling sound. Pepi, the parrot, flew down to the cage and began squawking excitedly.

“Pepi, quiet! Oh, we’re so glad to see you!” Lena whispered. “Now listen carefully to me. Fly back to the ship and bring us a saw. Do you understand?”

Pepi nodded and disappeared into the night. Henry nervously watched the sleeping pirates, but soon Pepi returned, carrying a small hand saw in his beak.

“That’s it, Pepi!” Henry whispered, quickly setting to work sawing through one side of the cage. Lena kept an eye on the pirates.

Minutes later, the bars gave a quiet crack, and the children slipped out. Henry crept over to the chest, and together with Lena, they lifted it.

“Come on, quickly to the boat!” Lena whispered.

The siblings ran toward the shore with the chest, but the cracking of twigs beneath their feet woke the pirates.

“They’ve escaped! After them!” Zeno shouted, and the crew gave chase.

Lena and Henry ran as fast as they could. At last, they reached the rowboat and, using all their strength, heaved the chest into it. Henry immediately pushed the boat away from the shore while Lena grabbed the oars.

The pirates reached the shore, but it was already too late.

“Accursed kids! That treasure is ours!” Zeno bellowed angrily, watching helplessly as the boat drifted farther and farther away.

The siblings finally reached the Dark Gull. They hauled the chest onto the deck and quickly raised the sails. The ship began to glide away toward open water, while the pirates cursed and shouted from the shore.

The Dark Gull proudly sailed toward the horizon, with the treasure safely on board.

Lena and Henry steered the Dark Gull into their village harbor, tired but proud. The villagers gathered excitedly on the shore to see the unusual ship and hear the siblings’ tale.

Henry pointed to the chest. “This is the pirates’ treasure. But from now on, it belongs to all of us.”

When they opened the chest, the gold and jewels glittered so brightly that the villagers held their breath in awe.

Pepi perched on a nearby branch and began squawking loudly:
“Treasure! Pirates! The gold is mine!”

The villagers burst into laughter, while Henry sighed and looked up at him. “Pepi, I think you’re the greatest pirate among us!”

The parrot proudly puffed out his chest as if in agreement and squawked: “Captain Pepi!”
